Regan, a budding gymnast from Forsyth, attended the event with her mother, Robin Oliver. The two often travel to Athens to watch Georgia's celebrated gymnastics team, the Gym Dogs, in action. Regan has plans to attend the Gym Dogs gymnastics camp this summer in Athens.

"I've been talking about it every day, apparently," Regan said.

She also said that Yoculan was very nice. "She said, 'Good luck at level five and I'll see you at camp.'''

FanFest is a meet-and-greet preview to the annual induction ceremony. This year's ceremony, which inducted Yoculan and six others, was held Saturday night at the Macon City Auditorium.

FanFest has been held since 2002, according to Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Director of Education Ben Sapp.

Saturday's event drew about 250 people, he said.

"A lot of times it's someone who wants to see someone in particular," Sapp said. "Some families come here to introduce their children to sports and share their heroes with their kids."

Brian Steen of Gordon showed up with a copy of the Dec. 10, 1965, issue of Life Magazine.

The photo on the cover was of University of Texas linebacker Tommy Nobis, soon to be signed by the expansion Atlanta Falcons.

Steen had just had the magazine autographed by Nobis, a 1983 hall of fame inductee and a Fan Fest regular.

"I came here just to meet the players, all the people you grew up with, to let them know how much we appreciate what they did," Steen said.

Nobis, who lives in Atlanta, said he attends FanFest whenever he can.

He has missed only a few years.

"It gives me an opportunity to visit some of these guys, the other athletes, I've known over the years. It's like a reunion," Nobis said.

Nobis said he also wants to support the hall of fame.

"I'm very aware of how important this facility is, and I want to be a part of it," he said.
