Gymnastics: Doerr and Krenz prep for state meet (Stillwater Gazette) Posted: 05 Mar 2010 11:22 AM PST The Stillwater gymnastics team will be represented by sophomore Alicia Doerr and senior Kristina Krenz in Saturday's individual Class AA state gymnastics meet at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion.
Doerr is making her first trip to state and will compete in the beam and floor exercise while Krenz is competing at state for the fifth time in her six-year varsity career while competing in the bars.
"It was a goal, but I wasn't really expecting it," Doerr said. "I didn't know how I would do. I just want to have fun and do the best I can. I'm a little nervous, but also excited. I just want to go in with a good attitude and have fun and not worry about it."
"I think it will be nice to have somebody there for support and to cheer you on," Doerr said. "I always feel better with somebody there." Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry. Available tools: PDF Newspaper, Full Text RSS, Term Extraction. |
Gymnastics: Krenz places fifth at state meet (Stillwater Gazette) Posted: 05 Mar 2010 11:23 AM PST MINNEAPOLIS - Competing in her fifth Class AA state meet, Stillwater's Kristina Krenz delivered a stellar performance on Saturday to cap her gymnastics career with a high note at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion.
The senior finished fifth in the uneven bars with a personal best score of 9.6 in what will remain the final performance. Krenz has endured numerous injuries during her prep career, including a stress fracture in her back and broken bones and ligaments in her foot.
"It definitely didn't used to be one of my better events," Krenz said. "Due to the foot injury, I've been able to work bars a little more."
"It was so exciting to see her on the podium in her last state meet," Swenson said. "With five state meet experiences, she is without a doubt one of our most successful gymnasts in school history. I could not have been more proud of Kristina. It was an outstanding way for her to finish an exceptional career as a Stillwater gymnast." Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry. Another weekend away for No. 6 gymnastics (The Daily Barometer) Posted: 04 Mar 2010 11:37 PM PST By Grady Garrett The Daily Barometer It's March, spring is upon us, and while the buzz surrounding baseball and softball picks up steam, the majority of the winter sports in Corvallis are beginning to wind down. But don't tell that to the No. 6 Oregon State gymnastics team. While the Oregon State wrestling team has already won a Pac-10 title and the basketball teams are wrapping up mediocre and sub-par seasons, the gymnastics team (10-1) is on a never-ending train ride that likely won't come to a halt until the NCAA Championships in late April. Next up: a stop in Baton Rouge, La., home to the No. 10 Tigers. It's leg three of four for the traveling Beavers, who are going from Feb. 12 to March 19 without a competition at Gill Coliseum. After falling in Los Angeles during leg one, Oregon State responded in stellar fashion in Tempe in leg two by registering a season-high - and the fourth highest road score in OSU gymnastics history - 196.925 in a thrashing of the Arizona State Sun Devils. "The girls were focused," assistant coach Michael Chaplin said. "We'll get there again by hitting our routines and staying consistent. Doing that on the road is especially crucial, and I think we were really pleased with (last week's) score." Is a deeper climb into the record books possible tonight? "If we all do our jobs, we'll get a 197.000 pretty easily," freshman Makayla Stambaugh said. "We're all just chomping at the bit, ready to go," senior Mandi Rodriguez said. While competing at the Maravich Center against a reigning Super Six participant is never easy, the rolling Beavers have quite a few things going for them nowadays. Most notable has been the resurgence of the beam team, who has posted season-highs (49.275 at UCLA, 49.300 at ASU) in back-to-back meets to help themselves jump to No. 4 in the national rankings. Not too shabby for a unit that was thought to be the team's "weakest link" just weeks ago. Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry.
