Mamaroneck reached the HVHL championship game with a 3-1 win over the Westchester Mariners in the semifinals at the Hommocks Rink.

Alex DeLitta scored off a rebound of a shot by James Dziwura with just one second left in the second period. Conley scored twice in the third period.

Others who consistently sparked the Tigers throughout the season and the playoffs included Andy Karlan, Brendan Boyle, Nick Friedland and Alexy Lefebvre on offense and Kesin Ryan Dehejia, Jamie Schiff, Ryan Rasor and Jared Bunder on defense.

The team was coached by James Schroeder, assisted by Tom Hensler, Joe Lopane and Sal Naclerio. Beth Boyle was the team manager.

Bantams prevail, too

The Mamaroneck Bantam A hockey team took top honors at the March Classic tournament in Marlborough, Mass., beating the Massachusetts South Shore Conquistadors 6-2 in the title game.

After going 3-0 in bracket play, the Tigers advanced to the championship round and defeated the Red Bank (N.J.) Generals twice and the Beaver Dam team from Locust Valley to reach the final.

Key contributors included Cooper Lavan, Eric Alimanestianu, Trey Herlitz-Ferguson, Josh Kriss, Hunter Boyle, Teddy Bellis, Roger Lavan, Matt Donaghy, Matt Fryer, Chase Jaeger, Robert Morris, Nick Charla, Spencer Kupferberg, Conner Smith, Corey Eisenband, Peter Conley and goalies Andrew Carlin and Thomas Brill.

The team was coached by Mike Loga and Evan Pollack.

Fifteen youths named All-American Scholars

Fifteen football and cheerleading participants for the Dover-CR Raiders have been honored as Pop Warner All-American Scholars for the 2009 season.

To apply for All-American status, participants must have had a minimum of a 96% grade point average. Once accepted, those selected are broken down into First-Team (35 football players and 35 cheerleaders per grade), Second-Team and Honorable Mention All-American Scholars.

All 15 members of the Dover-CR Raiders that earned national status were named to the Second Team.

Those students included: three-time winner Alex Winchester; two-time winners Nicholas Biddle, Jason Rigby and Kevin Forsyth; and first-year winners Syed Harris, Noah Lust, Jacob Mollohan, Gavin Bartsch, Joseph Lust, Christopher Webb, Amber Lust, Aundrea Sabatinelli, Alania Carter, Alexis McCullough and Summer Thomas.

All 15 winners are now invited to attend the 50th Annual Scholar All-American Scholar Awards Banquet Friday, May 28, and Saturday, May 29, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

BASKETBALL
Riders hosting community league this spring

The Rider Pride Community Basketball League registration is now open for men and women ages 18 and older.

Games will be held Saturdays and Sundays from May 1 to June 19 at Caesar Rodney High School, 239 Old North Road, Camden.

The cost per team is $410 for a men's team and $310 for a women's team. Teams may have up to 12 players. The cost includes a player T-shirt, seven weeks of games and a play-off tournament at the end of league play.

All money must be turned in by Wednesday, April 28.

The Delaware Rebels U11 Red Travel Baseball Team is seeking five new members for its team.

Turkey season opens April 10

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control's Division of Fish and Wildlife's spring turkey season opens Thursday, April 10, and runs through Friday, April 30.

Hunting hours will be a half hour prior to sunrise until 1 p.m. Hunters are reminded that all birds taken must be checked by 2:30 p.m. on the day of the hunt at an authorized turkey check station.

Local check stations for 2010 include: Woodland Beach Wildlife Check Station, 4876 Hay Point Landing Road, Smyrna; Little Creek Wildlife Area Check Station, Dover; and Williamsville Store, 3544 Williamsville Road, Houston.

Yoga/abs class begins April 13 at Harvest Years
Kent County Levy Court, through its Parks and Recreation Department, is offering Yoga/Abs and Overall Fitness from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 13 to May 27, at Harvest Years Senior Center, 30 South St., Camden.

The fee is $50. Participants should bring a yoga sticky mat.

Four sessions set for gymnastics class
Kent County Levy Court, through its Parks and Recreation Department, is offering Beginner Gymnastics for boys and girls, ages 6 and older, in four separate sessions at Gold Medal Gymnastics, Smyrna.

Boys' sessions will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for ages 6 to 8 Mondays, April 12 to May 3; and from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. for ages 9 and older Mondays, April 12 to May 3.

Girls' sessions will be from 10 to 11 a.m. for ages 6 to 8 Saturdays, April 10 to May 1; and from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturdays, April 10 to May 1.

The fee is $55 per child.

Taekwon-Do class begins April 8 in Smyrna

Maple Dale 18-holers to kick off 2010 season

The Maple Dale Country Club 18-Hole Golfers will open its season with a business meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Maple Dale, Dover.

Offices for 2010 are: Judy Taylor, president; Marilyn Mays, vice president; Claudia Young, secretary; and Gail Nemcic, treasurer.

The group will meet with new club pro Mark Eckles.

The ladies will play following the meeting, weather permitting.

Registration open for Miss Delaware tournament
The Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization is set to host the Miss Delaware Golf Classic with a shotgun start at noon Monday, June 7, at Maple Dale Country Club, Dover.

There are four ways to participate in the tournament, including playing in it; sponsoring a hole; attending the dinner and auction that follows it; and making a contribution to the auction.
Player registration is $125 for individual players or $500 for a foursome, which includes green fees, cart, unlimited range balls, a gift bag, lunch and dinner, and tournament prizes.

The hole-in-one prize will be a 2010 Mercedes C300W. Prizes also will be given to the top three gross and net, longest drive, and closest to the pin.

The dinner and auction will begin at 6 p.m. The cost is $25 per person, which is included in the players' fee, and will include rib-eye steak, potato, vegetable, dessert, ice-tea and coffee. A cash bar will be available.
