Gymnastics

KidzPlex host Best of the West

KidzPlex hosted the Best of the West EAGLES league invitation over the weekend, which included more than 200 gymnasts from around the state.

The KidzPlex Level 5 team placed first, led by Haylee Tannous, who won the all-around title in addition to finishing first on bars and beam.

Nautica Rodriguez won the all-around and vault at Level 3, which helped the team finish second overall.

In Level 6, Brook Rajnowski placed second all-around and won vault, beam and floor.

TOKYO —

World champion Kohei Uchimura won his second consecutive title in the individual all-around at the NHK Cup on Sunday. Uchimura collected 275.575 points for his performances in six disciplines on the last day of the two-day event, which doubled as the final qualifier for the world gymnastics championships in the Netherlands in October.
   
Uchimura booked his ticket along with Koko Tsurumi, who claimed her second straight title in the women's individual all-around with a total of 173.775. Koji Yamamuro and Koji Uematsu, who came second and third, respectively, were also selected in the men's event.
