Baseball: Wood to rejoin CubsCHICAGO (AP) — Kerry Wood is returning to the Chicago Cubs, agreeing to a one-year, $1.5 million contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. Wood pitched for the Cubs from 1998-08. He signed with the Indians as a free agent in December 2008 and was traded from Cleveland to the New York Yankees last July. Wood became Mariano Rivera's primary setup man and was 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in 24 appearances with New York. A's get Willingham from NatsOAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics suddenly have a lineup that could make them a contender in the AL West — if the oft-injured A's stay healthy, of course. Oakland acquired outfielder Josh Willingham on Thursday from the Washington Nationals, who received a pair of prospects in the trade. A's general manager Billy Beane certainly has worked to upgrade his lineup. Willingham is a middle-of-the-order hitter who should complement two other new faces: Hideki Matsui and David DeJesus. Willingham batted .268 with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs last season, his second with Washington after five years with Florida. Posted: 09 Dec 2010 08:02 AM PST AT least 240 young gymnasts, including a delegation from Singapore, will see action in the 2010 Bea Lucero Cup starting on Dec. 11 at the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines Center at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. Lucero, one of the brightest stars to emerge from the Milo sports program, will officially open the two-day competition at 8 a.m. Lucero, one of the most successful Milo athletes, is now a passionate advocate of grassroots sports, a testament to Milo's success in building champions not only in sports but also in life. A former top gymnast in Southeast Asian who went on to win a taekwondo bronze medal in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics when the sport was still a demonstration event, Lucero has for years been focusing on talent identification and development. The 11th edition of the Milo-sponsored Bea Lucero Gymnastics Cup features emerging stars Uytengsu Uytengsu and Micah Bernate, who shone in the event last year. McKenzie Kinsela, Erin Evangelista, Ronnie Nolido, Micah Sunga and Samantha Dominguez are also expected to shine, along with a host of talented young athletes. The Prime Gymnastics Club of Singapore is sending a delegation to vie against Manila Gymnastics Club, Philippine Gymnastics Athletic Academy and other teams from different schools and clubs in the country. Among those seeing action are Poveda, International School-Manila, St. Paul College Pasig, Miriam College, St. Scholastica's College, Philippine Normal University, OB Montesori, Immaculate Conception Academy, Assumption College and University of the Philippines.
