PORTER COUNTY SPORTS BRIEFS: Gymnastics fun day Thursday at VHS Posted: 24 Dec 2010 06:11 AM PST Gymnastics fun day Thursday at VHS VALPARAISO | The three-time defending state champion Valparaiso High School gymnastics team will host a fun day from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Thursday in the fieldhouse. The event is available to students ages 5 and older. Registration is from 8:45 to 11 a.m. and Monday through Wednesday. Signups also run from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday. Cost is $15. Boone Grove girls hoops camp Monday BOONE GROVE | The Boone Grove High School girls basketball team will host a free mini camp from 9 a.m. to noon Monday in the main gym. Horizon Gymnastics offers holiday specials VALPARAISO | Horizon Gymnastics Center will offer a few holiday activities. Open gym for those ages 9 and under will run from 10:45 a.m. to noon Thursday. Open gym for those ages 7-18 will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. A back tuck and back handspring clinic will run separately Monday through Wednesday. The back tuck clinic will run from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m., while the back handspring clinic will run from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The fee is $15 for one clinic. Pajamanastics, for those in grades 1-8, will run from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 9 a.m. Thursday. The cost is $25 for Horizon members, $30 for guests. Pre-register by Monday. Several golf clinics available at Creekside VALPARAISO | Several clinics for both youths and adults are available at Creekside Golf Course and Training Center. Range balls for both junior and adult programs are $3 for 45 balls and $5 for 90 balls. Four junior clinics are available. Lil' Tiger classes will run from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Ages 3-5 are eligible. The cost is $15 per class, with an accompanying adult playing for free. Linkster classes are for ages 6-8. The classes will run from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Portage coed volleyball league begins Jan. 18 PORTAGE | The Portage Parks and Recreation's coed volleyball league will begin Jan. 18 at Woodland Park. A Division will play on Tuesday nights. VU softball to host winter clinics VALPARAISO | Valparaiso University's softball team will host youth clinics beginning Jan. 30. Beginner clinics are open to ages 12 and under, while advanced clinics are open to ages 13-18. On Jan. 30, both beginner and advanced hitting and pitching clinics will be held. The beginner hitting clinic will run from 10 a.m. to noon, and the beginner pitching clinic will follow from 1 to 3 p.m. The advanced pitching clinic will run from 10 a.m. to noon, while the advanced hitting clinic will run from 1 to 3 p.m. An advanced all-skills clinic will run from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 20, while a beginner all-skills clinic will run from noon to 3 p.m. March 20. Valpo resident discount golf cards available VALPARAISO | The 2011 discount golf card is free for Valparaiso city residents. The card allows residents to receive reduced rates on greens fees. Stop by Creekside or Forest Park to pick up a card. Also, 2011 golf passes for Forest Park and Creekside golf courses are available at 2010 rates. Available pass types include individual, couples, senior, senior couples, student (valid college ID) and junior (18 and younger). All passes are good for play on both golf courses.
