Seattle Pacific's Anissa Madrid placed eighth (37.875) in the all-around competition at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships in Denton, Texas.

Four Falcons advanced to event finals: Madrid (beam), Sherah Veron (vault), Kaysha Heck (bars) and Laura Willis (bars).

Men's tennis

Seattle University fell 4-1 to New Jersey Institute of Technology to open the National Independent Tournament in Farmville, Va.

• Washington's Nick Taylor is one of 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award, presented annually to the top men's college golfer.

Marquise Carter, a 6-4, 185-pound guard from Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo., has signed a letter of intent with the Gonzaga men's basketball team.

Central Connecticut has become a hotbed of high school gymnastics talent, mostly centered on Southington. This season was no exception, as the Blue Knights went on to their fifth Class L state title in six years. But a training partner of the Knights turned out to be the top winner of the year.
