Gymnastics coach charged with groping boy in Norwalk Posted: 14 May 2010 11:59 AM PDT By John Nickerson A 63-year-old gymnastics instructor with a past conviction for assaulting a boy was charged with groping an 8-year-old boy during a workout in March, police said. Vincent Pozzouli, of 129 Carriage Path South, Milford, was charged with risk of injury to a child and third-degree sexual assault. Pozzouli turned himself in to police Wednesday and was released after posting $10,000 bond. The incident occurred March 16 when the boy went to a Champions of Character Boys Gymnastics Team class held at the Norwalk YMCA, police said. The team leases space at the YMCA for their classes. That day the boy told investigators during a forensic interview he was working with coach "Vincent" doing some stretching exercises. As Pozzouli was squeezing the boy's thigh muscles to relax them, Pozzouli moved his hands under his shorts and boxers and touched his private parts, the boy said, according to the four-page arrest warrant affidavit submitted by Detective Timothy Marquis. Pozzouli, interviewed at police headquarters nearly a month after the incident, told Marquis and a state Department of Children and Families social worker he was helping the boy do a saddle split stretch when the incident happened. Pozzouli said as he was helping relax the boy's thigh muscles, he moved or was distracted by other team members and his hand briefly slipped into the boy crotch area under his shorts, the affidavit said; he said he then immediately pulled his hand away and that the boy did not seem fazed or upset by what occurred and the two continued on as normal. He said the touch was not intentional in any way. That night, however, the boy told his mother what had happened and she reported it to the YMCA's sports director and vice president of human resources, the affidavit said. In 1994, Pozzouli was accused of a similar crime involving an 11-year-old Connecticut boy who went to a weeklong gymnastics camp in Maine. Pozzouli was later acquitted of an unlawful sexual assault charge, but convicted of assault because the jury apparently found that Pozzouli made "offensive physical contact," with the boy. During his interview with Marquis in Norwalk, Pozzouli said the boy lied about the Maine incident and he did not want to talk about it further. Pozzouli is to be arraigned on the charges May 21. Sports company from China aims to capture market worldwide Posted: 14 May 2010 04:40 PM PDT A SPORTS company from China - Li-Ning Company Limited, has introduced its wide range of badminton gear and apparel on Malaysian shores. The brand's arrival is timely as most Malaysian are tuned to the ongoing Thomas and Uber Cup Finals at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil. Li Ning, a leading sports equipment manufacturer in China, has under its stable a range of high-technology badminton racquets, shoes and accessories which are currently used by Chinese ace shuttler Lin Dan and other members of the China badminton team. In conjunction with the launch, Li-Ning and its official distributor in Malaysia Sunlight Marketing (Sports) Sdn Bhd announced a sponsorship worth RM60,000 in cash and kind in support of a grassroots junior badminton development programme jointly run by Bakti and Federal Territory Schools Sport Council (MSSSMKL). In a recent launch at a leading hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Li Ning Southeast Asia Operations group general manager Vivien Lim told a press conference that the brand's entry into Malaysia was a major step forward in their efforts to expand to the international market. Also present at the press conference were Lin Dan, China's national head coach Li Yongbo, double players Yu Yang and Du Jing, all of whom are in Malaysia for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals. "We believe that badminton, which has a huge following in Malaysia and the rest of South-East Asia, is the perfect platform to introduce this brand given our association with the Chinese national badminton team," said Lim. Li-Ning has been the official sponsor of the Chinese national badminton team since April 2009 and has partnerships with other major Chinese national teams namely table tennis, gymnastics, shooting and diving. Lim said she believed Li-Ning products would quickly gain acceptance in the Malaysian market. "The products are not only highly-fashionable but the ground-breaking technologies ensure delivery of superior performance," she said. The company plans to open its second flagship Li-Ning concept store outside of mainland China in the Klang Valley this year. Its first overseas store is at Singapore's ION Orchard shopping mall that was opened last July. A fashion show was also held earlier witnessed by the Chinese team players, who also included Chinese women's singles player Wang Yihan, men's singles player Bao Chunlai and men's doubles pair Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng.
