Gymnastics sign-ups Monday at VHS

VALPARAISO | Enrollment for the next session of general gymnastics classes at Valparaiso High School will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday in the fieldhouse. Classes for students age 5 and older are available at 5:30 or 6:30 p.m. Mondays or Tuesdays beginning Jan. 31. The fee is $30 for the session of six classes. Training team enrollment is also being accepted. Girls age 6 and older who would like an entry-level experience with competition will practice from 5:30 to 7 or 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Portage soccer sign-ups this weekend

PORTAGE | The 22nd annual Portage Youth Basketball boys and girls all-star tournaments for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade boys will be held Feb. 25-27. VALPARAISO | Creekside Golf Course and Training Center is offering adult and junior classes in January.

Monday morning ladies clinics will run from 10 to 11 a.m. Clinics will be Monday (fairway woods and hybrids) and Jan. 31 (swing path and drills). Cost is $15. VU softball to host winter clinics

VALPARAISO | Valparaiso University's softball team will host youth clinics beginning Jan. 30. Beginner clinics are open to ages 12 and under, while advanced clinics are open to ages 13-18. On Jan. 30, both beginner and advanced hitting and pitching clinics will be held. The beginner hitting clinic will run from 10 a.m. to noon, and the beginner pitching clinic will follow from 1 to 3 p.m. The advanced pitching clinic will run from 10 a.m. to noon, while the advanced hitting clinic will run from 1 to 3 p.m. An advanced all-skills clinic will run from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 20, while a beginner all-skills clinic will run from noon to 3 p.m. March 20. Alabama senior Kayla Hoffman was named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week the league office announced Thursday. Hoffman led the Crimson Tide to a season-opening win over Penn State last Friday, posting a 39.5 in the all-around which ties her career high.

COLLEGE TRACK: Pair of Hornets take SWAC honors

Jonathan Franklin and Lutrisha Altidor were named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week by the SWAC office. The ASU track and field teams competed at the Clemson Invitational over the weekend and Franklin won the 400 meter dash. He finished the dash with a time of 49.58. Altidor won the 500 meter dash with a time of 25.63. She then competed in the 800 meter dash and finished second in 2:20.59.
