Tri-Valley Youth Sports Roundup Posted: 17 Jun 2010 12:17 AM PDT Here are the weekly youth sports results for swimming, soccer, baseball, gymnastics and other Tri-Valley competitive sports: San Ramon Baseball Slammers U-14 At the 680 Diablo League Tournament the Slammers fell 11-3 to Martinez in the championship game. Tyler Bilse scored the team's first run and Garrett Cardoza played strong defense. Aaron Adams hit a double in an 8-4 semifinal win over Clayton. The Slammers also had an 11-1 win over Danville. TJ Barradas tripled in a run and Jeffrey Huettenhain and Levon Potoukian each had run-scoring doubles. Eric Pineda, Umar Farooq and John Niles also had doubles. Alex Murdoch played well on defense. Livermore National Little League Junior 90s Livermore came back from a six-run deficit to defeat Pleasanton 9-7. Kevin Hayes drove in Bobby Griffin and Devin Perez with the team's first runs. Perez also had an RBI triple. Mitchell Licata stayed hot with a single. Andrew Lord pitched four strong innings in relief. Mat Adiao earned the save. A The DiamondbBacks and the Padres played well in the final game of the season. For the Padres, Matt Fiedor and Josh Fiedor repeatedly made outstanding defensive plays and Isaiah Ontai and Kyle Sands had great hits. The Diamondbacks had great offense from Dylan Mizuhara and Giovani Fuentes. Jimmy Rodriguez and John Stangl also played well.AA In the second game of the league tournament the Giants beat the Rockies. Robert Hoff, Elizabeth Kennedy and Sean Pascual all played well for the Rockies. The Giants top players were Max Johnson, Jacob Denhert and Matt Kovacs. Pleasanton Junior 80s Gold Pleasanton defeated the San Ramon Junior 80s 12-11 in a wild and exciting game. Ryan Probst and Jordan Ott had three hits each, and Kyle Freitas, Scott Rasnick, Kyle Lawrence and Matt Finney had two apiece to lead the Pleasanton attack. Probst had four RBIs, Lawrence had two RBIs and Ott and Dylan Frades each drove in one run. Ballistic United Premier U-20 Ballistic scored three quick second-half goals to secure a 5-2 NorCal Premier Gold League win against Oakland. In the 52nd minute Kyle Crain scored on a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1. George Mayer crossed to Stephan Rabrenovich for a 2-1 lead. In the 57th minute David Norton put Ballistic up 3-1, taking an Aaron Gotthardt pass and slotting the ball home. Michael Biegarten and Norton finished the scoring. Granada Little League Majors In the championship game the Diamondbacks fell behind but answered with an 8-7 win over the Mariners. Brett Rasmussen homered, singled and scored a run in the win. Nick Stanley and Ryan Reeves each singled and doubled for the Diamondbacks. Jackson Kennedy homered and drove in two runs for the Mariners. Great pitching coupled with timely hitting and outstanding defense led to the Warriors' 7-4 win. The team is coach by Steve Claire and assisted by Bob Allenberg. HIGH SCHOOLS Whitney solid at national showcase Eight of New Hampshire's best high school seniors as well as four coaches traveled to Fort Myers Beach, Fla., to represent the state at the National Senior Showcase Invitational hosted by the National High School Gymnastics Association (NHSGA). The Granite State team competed in a field of 14 state squads (130 gymnasts) from as far as Washington State and finished 10th overall. Gymnasts representing New Hampshire were Courtney Mailloux (Nashua North), Victoria Lombardi (Merrimack), Erin Whitney (Souhegan), Shireen Kirata (Salem), Leah Jackson (Londonderry), Ainsley Smith (Manchester Central), Abigail Moses (Concord) and Shannon O'Connor (Lin-Wood). Many of the girls held fundraisers to help raise money to attend the meet. Coaches at the meet included Chelsie Veilleux (Nashua), Terrianne Archer (Londonderry), Jay Soucy (Lin-Wood) and state Liason Rae Ann Chrane (Spaulding). Team New Hampshire was awarded the Sportsmanship Award at the meet for their friendliness to other athletes and positive support of competitors both on and off their own squad. This was the largest squad the state has sent to the meet since it began sending girls in 2007. Whitney set a personal best on floor at the meet where she posted a 9.0 and tied for 41st. She also had strong showings on beam where she scored an 8.425 and vault where she scored 8.775. Mailloux was the team's top all-around finisher placing 28th with a score of 34.875. Her score of 9.225 on the balance beam the first day qualified her for event finals where she finished 14th in the event. She also scored 9.10 on floor (tie 31st). She will continue gymnastics at Rhode Island College's Division III program. Lombardi was one of two girls to stick their beam routine in the meet. She earned a 7.55 in the event and also posted an 8.25 on vault. Lombardi will be attending URI in the fall and hopes to continue gymnastics on its club team. Souhegan, Milford earn sportsmanship honors Souhegan High School and Milford High School had two teams each honored with sportsmanship awards this spring. The Sabers' baseball team (Class I) and girls lacrosse team (Division I) were selected as one of the top three teams displaying sportsmanship in their respective classes/divisions. The Spartans' boys tennis team (Class I) and boys lacrosse team (Division 3) earned honorable mention sportsmanship honors in their respective classes/divisions. These awards are presented to schools that demonstrate respect and sportsmanship from the school's athletes, coaches and fans. MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK Amherst Eagles soar to second straight title The Amherst Middle School girls track and field team repeated as the Tri-County Division II champions by amassing a total of 173 points (second place scored 59). It was their second undefeated season in a row. Leading the way for the Eagles were Courtney Gabinetti with first place finishes in the high jump, hurdles and 400. She also anchored the winning 4x200 relay. Her 4-10 high jump tied the meet record and her 1:00.01 time in the 400 bested the meet record by nearly two seconds and would have placed her fourth among all New Hampshire high school girls. Also recording individual firsts were CiCi Huyck in the 100 (13.28) and 200 (28.15); Min Lu Kelly-Durham in the 800 (2:36.29); and Caree Pitts in discus (76-02). Kelly-Durham, Miclyn Noorda, Sam Prue and Taylor Behn teamed up for first in the 4x100 relay, while Jocelyn Donohue, Huyck, Addison Boothroyd and Gabinetti won the 4x200 relay. The Amherst boys finished eight points out of first place in their attempt to win their third championship in a row. Drew Prescott came in first in the 400 (57.17), David Kibbie was first in the 800 (2:19.99) and Patrick Lynch won the 1,600 with a school record of 4:57.6. Other school records recorded during the season included; Sarah Hurd tying Gabinetti's 4-10 in the high jump; Prescott at 56.2 in the 400; the team of Behn, Huyck, Boothroyd and Madison Learned finishing in 52.9 in the 4x100; the team of Gabinetti, Huyck, Boothroyd and Learned running the 4x200 in 1:50.4; and Gabinetti lowering her school record in the 400 five times. Top point scorers for the season for the boys were Ben DeForest, who earned was second at the championships in the hurdles and third in the high jump, as well as, Gabinetti on the girls side for the second straight year. YOUTH LACROSSE Amherst U15A girls wins 3rd straight title The Amherst U15A girls finished their youth lacrosse careers on top of the state for the third year in a row. During the regular season, Amherst compiled a record of 6-1-1 in league play and 10-1-1 overall, it's only loss coming at Londonderry and the tie at Hanover. Amherst met both of these teams again in the NHYLA playoffs held in Londonderry on June 13 – picking up a win over Londonderry in the semifinals and knocking off Hanover in the final. Hanover brought plenty of pressure in the championship game, but Amherst didn't back down, pulling out a 13-11 win for another title. This year's team was coached by Chris Jay and Todd Ballantyne, but these girls have benefited from the experience of many coaches over the years. In particular, this group has been impacted and shaped over the years by Lisa Kent and Jody Donohue. They provided this team with a solid foundation not only in lacrosse but in soccer and basketball. In fact, some began with Kent as kindergarten T-ball players on the Wilkins fields and will now rejoin her on the Souhegan High School fields in the fall. SUMMER CAMPS Murray offering two hoop camp sessions Milford High School boys basketball coach Dan Murray is offering a Hoop Camp this summer for boys and girls ages 8 through 16 at Milford Middle School. Camps will be held for two weeks, from June 28 through July 2 and from July 26 through July 30. The fee is $125 for a one-week session. For more information, call 672-7140. Astros Shoot for the Stars camp in July The annual Astros Shoot for the Stars field hockey camp will run the Monday through Friday the weeks of July 12 and July 19 from 8 a.m.-noon at Rider field in Derry. Beginners to high school varsity players are welcome from grades 4-12. The cost is $100 for one week and $175 for two weeks and includes insurance, camper pack and instruction. Nashua PAL running camp set for August The Nashua Police Athletic League is offering this new program, which will be held Aug. 16-20 and/or Aug. 23-27 (5:30-7 p.m. daily, rain or shine) at the Nashua High School South track. The camp cost is $20/week (camp tee-shirt is included with two weeks tuition). This program is for third, fourth and fifth graders in the fall of 2010. The primary goal of this program is personal achievement, individual success and the development of healthy habits in a fun and social atmosphere. The proceeds of this year's tournament will benefit organizations like the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Nashua, Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley, Granite State Organizing Project and the New Hampshire Association for the Blind, just to name a few. HORSESHOE CLUB Harwood closes gap with Riley in Week 7 Pat Harwood and Todd Ciardelli recorded high scores of 227, jut three ahead of Bill Davis' 224 during Week 7 action of the Milford Horseshoe Club. Davis' solid showing bumped him up three spots to ninth overall in the standings, while Hardwood closed the gap between him and No. 1 player Dale Riley. Riley holds a slim lead over Harwood with a 19.1867 average (1,439 total points) to Harwood's 19.0370 average (1,028). Cal Beam (18.9412, 966) sits in third, followed by Charlie Ferguson (18.1500, 1,089), Zeke Ramanek (17.8167, 1,69), Ciardelli (17.6111, 1,268), Gene Case (17.4800, 1,311), Bill Courage (17.3611, 1,250), Davis (16.8704, 911) and John Hooper (16.1587, 1,018) rounding out the top 10.
